21-1-2025 (SINGAPORE) An accident involving a lorry and a motorcycle on the Bukit Timah Expressway (BKE) claimed the lives of two individuals early morning of 21 Jan, triggering extensive traffic delays that stretched to the Woodlands Checkpoint during rush hour.
Emergency services responded to the incident at approximately 5:40 am on the BKE’s southbound carriageway, just before the Kranji Expressway exit. The Singapore Civil Defence Force confirmed that two individuals were pronounced deceased at the scene, whilst a third person was conveyed to Woodlands Health Campus for treatment.
Eyewitness footage circulating on social media captured the aftermath of the collision, showing a stationary white lorry on the expressway’s first lane, with a motorcycle lying on its side near the vehicle’s rear wheels.
The incident prompted swift action from the Land Transport Authority, which issued an advisory around 7 am urging motorists to avoid the expressway’s first two lanes. The crash’s ripple effects were felt across Singapore’s public transport network, with multiple bus services experiencing significant delays.
Tower Transit reported delays of up to 45 minutes for services 171, 963, and 966, whilst their Service 856 towards Yishun faced delays of up to 20 minutes. SBS Transit similarly announced disruptions to their services 161 and 168 along the Seletar Expressway towards the BKE, as well as Service 138 travelling along Mandai Road.
