10-1-2025 (BANGKOK) In a case bearing striking similarities to the recent rescue of Chinese actor Xingxing, Thai authorities have launched an urgent investigation into the disappearance of Chinese model Yang Zeqi near the Thailand-Myanmar border region, Police Inspector-General Pol General Thatchai Pitaneelaboot announced yesterday.
The 23-year-old model’s ordeal began after he allegedly secured what appeared to be a promising film role through WeChat. Yang departed Beijing Daxing International Airport for Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport on 20 December, where he was collected by individuals claiming to represent the production company.
According to police reports, Yang’s last known whereabouts trace to the Thai-Myanmar border area, where he was transported by a second vehicle reportedly arranged by the purported film crew. The situation took a concerning turn when Yang messaged friends on 21 December expressing feelings of distress.
In what would be his final documented communication, Yang made a video call to his mother on 29 December. During the brief conversation, whilst asserting his safety, Yang appeared visibly injured with trauma near his eye. He was observed wearing dark clothing and seated at a table, raising red flags about his circumstances.
Family members raised the alarm after subsequent attempts to contact Yang proved futile, with his mobile phone switched off. They have since filed formal complaints with Chinese law enforcement and diplomatic missions in both Thailand and Myanmar.
