9-1-2025 (HANOI) A decomposed body that washed ashore on a beach in central Vietnam has been identified as a 75-year-old fisherman who went missing at sea last week, local authorities confirmed.
The grim discovery was made by residents of Bac Thuong village in Vinh An commune, Phu Vang district, during their morning beach walk on Tuesday. The deceased, found in a bloated state near the waterline, was wearing a long-sleeved shirt beneath a black jacket and shorts.
Local officials have identified the man as Le Van Phuoc, a resident of neighbouring Vinh Hien commune, who had disappeared whilst fishing on January 5th. The identification was aided by social media posts about the discovery, which prompted a local resident from Vinh Hien to come forward and confirm the man’s identity.
“The victim resided approximately five kilometres from where his body was discovered,” said Pham Phung, Chairman of the Vinh An Commune People’s Committee. “Initial reports suggest he met with an accident during a fishing expedition four days ago.”
