8-1-2025 (SINGAPORE) A violent incident at a Woodlands secondary school has left a 12-year-old boy hospitalised and sparked concerns over school safety after he was allegedly struck on the head with a metal bottle by a fellow student.
The incident occurred at Admiralty Secondary School on Monday afternoon, prompting an immediate response from emergency services. Police were summoned to the premises at approximately 2pm, while paramedics from the Singapore Civil Defence Force attended to the victim’s injuries.
The victim, who had only been attending the school for four days since commencing his Secondary 1 studies, sustained a head laceration and was transported to Mount Alvernia Hospital. Medical professionals assessed him for a suspected concussion, noting elevated blood pressure levels and symptoms including dizziness.
Speaking to our correspondent, the victim’s uncle, Jeremy Goh, described his nephew as a “soft-spoken boy” who had previously encountered bullying, though never of this severity. “The incident has left him deeply traumatised,” Goh revealed. “He’s even declined visits from schoolmates, feeling his safety was severely compromised.”
School administrators confirmed they are treating the matter with utmost seriousness. In an official statement, Admiralty Secondary emphasised their zero-tolerance stance on violence, stating they have initiated counselling for the alleged perpetrator and will implement appropriate disciplinary measures.
The victim is expected to remain on medical leave until 14 January, according to hospital documentation. His family is now contemplating transferring him to another institution, citing concerns over his safety and psychological well-being.
“It’s particularly distressing to hear him say he’s lost faith in the school system,” Goh commented. “We entrust our children’s education to schools, expecting them to be safe havens for learning.”
This incident emerges against a backdrop of broader bullying statistics in Singapore’s education system. Recent parliamentary data presented by Education Minister Chan Chun Sing revealed that secondary schools record an average of six bullying incidents per 1,000 students annually.
Police investigations are ongoing, with the 12-year-old suspect assisting authorities with their enquiries. The victim’s family has reported receiving limited communication from the school regarding the incident and medical expense assistance.
