7-1-2025 (BANGKOK) Renowned Chinese actor Wang Xing has been found safe after a brief disappearance near the Thai-Myanmar border, Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra confirmed yesterday.
The 31-year-old performer, widely known as Xingxing, was located in Myanmar and successfully returned to Thai territory via Mae Sot district in Tak province, where he met with Regional Police officials.
Speaking after a cabinet meeting in Bangkok, the Prime Minister addressed mounting concerns about the incident’s potential impact on Thailand’s tourism sector. “We are treating this matter with utmost discretion whilst working in close coordination with Chinese diplomatic representatives to ensure accurate information reaches the public,” said Paetongtarn.
Tourism and Sports Minister Sorawong revealed that the actor’s whereabouts were confirmed on Monday, leading to his safe return to Thailand the following day. The incident began when Wang arrived at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport early Friday and travelled to Tak province, after which he became unreachable.
In a concerning development, Royal Thai Police Inspector-General Pol Gen Thatchai Peetaneelabut disclosed that Wang had been transported from the airport to Mae Sot by a private driver, before being escorted across an unofficial border crossing into Myanmar. “We have launched a comprehensive investigation as this bears hallmarks of organised human trafficking activities,” the senior police official stated.
Thai authorities are particularly keen to address the situation’s broader implications for tourism, as social media platforms in China have seen widespread speculation about safety concerns in Thailand. “We are working diligently to counter any misconceptions,” Minister Sorawong emphasised. “Those familiar with Thailand understand that such isolated incidents do not reflect the overall safety of our nation as a tourist destination.”
