7-1-2025 (KUALA LUMPUR)Â Singapore’s Prime Minister Lawrence Wong touched down in Malaysia yesterday for the landmark 11th Malaysia-Singapore Leaders’ Retreat, setting the stage for two days of high-level discussions aimed at strengthening bilateral ties.
The Singaporean delegation, led by PM Wong, who also holds the Finance portfolio, received a warm welcome from Malaysian Minister of Higher Education Zambry Abdul Kadir at Kuala Lumpur International Airport. The visit commenced with an intimate dinner hosted by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim at the historic Rumah Tangsi, an architectural gem showcasing European colonial heritage.
In a striking display of bilateral friendship, the iconic Petronas Twin Towers were illuminated in the national colours of both countries – red, white and blue – creating a spectacular visual representation of the enduring partnership between the neighbouring nations.
Following the dinner engagement, PM Wong expressed optimism about the discussions, noting on social media: “The productive dialogue we’ve had today points to numerous collaborative opportunities that will benefit both our nations. As we commemorate 60 years of diplomatic relations, this sets an encouraging tone for our bilateral partnership.”
The two-day summit, hosted in Malaysia’s administrative capital of Putrajaya, features a comprehensive agenda including an official welcome ceremony at the Perdana Putra Complex, followed by extensive delegation-level talks. A highlight of the retreat will be the exchange of bilateral agreements and memoranda of understanding across various sectors.
