4-1-2025 (SINGAPORE) A 71-year-old woman was injured in a collision with a taxi whilst using a pedestrian crossing in Singapore’s Chinatown district on Friday afternoon, authorities have confirmed.
The incident occurred at approximately 2:45 pm at the junction of New Bridge Road and Upper Pickering Street, where eyewitnesses reported seeing the elderly pedestrian, who was walking with a cane, being struck by a blue taxi.
Footage that emerged on social media showed emergency responders attending to the victim, who was lying on the ground near the zebra crossing. Several bystanders, including what appeared to be the taxi driver, were seen gathered around the scene as paramedics administered first aid.
A spokesperson for the Singapore Police Force told reporters that the pedestrian was conveyed to hospital whilst conscious. The 65-year-old male taxi driver is currently assisting authorities with their enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the collision.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force subsequently confirmed that their ambulance crew transported the injured woman to Singapore General Hospital for further medical assessment and treatment.
