2-1-2025 (JAKARTA) A deadly shooting incident at a motorway service station has left one man dead and another seriously wounded in the early hours of Thursday morning. The attack occurred at approximately 4:30 AM local time at the 45-kilometre marker of the Tangerang-Merak motorway’s rest area.
The victims, identified only as IA, 48, and R, 59, were targeted immediately after stepping out of their vehicle. According to Police Inspector Purbawa, spokesperson for the Tangerang Police, “The shooting occurred moments after they exited their vehicle.”
Tangerang Police Chief Commissioner Baktiar Joko Mujiono, accompanied by Criminal Investigation Unit Head Police Commander Arief Nazarudin, promptly visited the scene to oversee the initial investigation. Preliminary findings suggest the assailant was travelling in an SUV.
The attack proved fatal for IA, who sustained a gunshot wound to the chest, whilst R was shot in the shoulder and is currently receiving intensive care treatment at a local hospital.
“Our investigation teams are actively pursuing leads and gathering evidence,” Inspector Purbawa told reporters. “The suspect remains at large, and we are conducting a thorough investigation to collect crucial evidence.”
The stretch of motorway where the incident occurred, a major artery connecting Tangerang to Merak, remained partially cordoned off as forensic teams combed the area for evidence. Police have not yet disclosed potential motives for the attack or whether the victims were specifically targeted.
