26-12-2024 (SINGAPORE) A 36-year-old foreign national has died in what appears to be a fall from a pedestrian bridge in central Singapore, prompting a significant police response and causing major traffic disruptions during the morning rush hour.
The incident occurred at approximately 9:00 AM on Thursday near the Singapore Petroleum Corporation (SPC) petrol station along Telok Blangah Road. Emergency services responded to reports of a man found on the carriageway below the pedestrian overpass.
Upon arrival, Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) paramedics pronounced the man deceased at the scene. Police cordoned off the area, establishing a blue tent over the body, whilst forensic teams conducted their initial investigations.
Eyewitnesses described the deceased as being of European appearance. In a significant development, investigators recovered a suitcase from the pedestrian bridge, believed to belong to the deceased. The circumstances surrounding the presence of the luggage remain unclear at this stage.
Traffic flow was severely impacted, with authorities restricting vehicular movement to a single lane on the normally three-lane thoroughfare. Substantial bloodstains were visible on the roadway beneath the overpass, according to onlookers.
A petrol station worker, who wished to be identified only as Mr Cao, 68, noted unusual traffic congestion beginning around 8:00 AM, though he was unable to witness the incident directly due to his distance from the scene.
“The traffic built up quite suddenly,” he told our reporter. “It was unlike the usual morning rush hour patterns we typically observe.”
The Singapore Police Force has confirmed they received the initial emergency call at 9:05 AM and have launched a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death. Authorities are appealing for witnesses to come forward with any information that might assist their enquiries.
