24-12-2024 (JAKARTA) Indonesian Cabinet Secretary Major Teddy Indra Wijaya has dismissed reports that President Prabowo Subianto’s cancelled meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim was due to ill health, citing urgent matters in Jakarta as the actual reason for the last-minute schedule change.
The clarification comes after speculation arose when PM Anwar Ibrahim posted on his X (formerly Twitter) account that Prabowo had cancelled their planned meeting in Langkawi due to fever. Anwar had already arrived on the Malaysian island with his family for the scheduled bilateral talks.
“There is an important matter in Jakarta that required the President’s immediate return,” Major Teddy told reporters on Monday evening. He emphasised that President Prabowo’s robust health was evidenced by his participation in a limited ministerial meeting held at Halim Perdanakusuma Airport in Jakarta earlier that morning.
The Cabinet Secretary detailed that immediately upon landing in Indonesia, President Prabowo conducted an urgent meeting with several ministers in the airport’s waiting room. “The President went straight into discussions to review the latest developments with cabinet members,” Major Teddy explained.
This account contrasts with PM Anwar’s social media statement, which read: “My family and I are on Langkawi Island to receive a visit from our friend, President Prabowo Subianto today. However, last night he asked to postpone the meeting for a few days because of a fever.”
