19-12-2024 (BANGKOK) A tragic incident unfolded in Thailand’s northeastern province of Bueng Kan on Thursday when an armed assailant killed two civilians before turning the weapon on himself.
The incident occurred in the rural district of Phon Charoen, where local law enforcement responded to emergency calls at approximately 12:50 pm. Upon arrival at the scene in tambon Nong Hua Chang, officers discovered two fatalities and two injured individuals, one of whom was an emergency responder.
Witnesses reported that the perpetrator, later identified as 30-year-old Sakkarin Singto, appeared to be in an altered state, possibly due to narcotic substances. The victims were apparently random targets who happened to be in the vicinity during the shooting spree.
Following the initial attack, Singto fled the scene, prompting a swift response from law enforcement. A team of more than 30 officers established a security perimeter and initiated a manhunt in the surrounding area.
The situation reached its tragic conclusion at approximately 1:00 pm when Singto was discovered deceased in his residence. Before taking his own life, he had discharged several rounds at pursuing officers from his position within the house.
Local authorities have launched a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. The names of the deceased victims and injured parties have not been released pending notification of next of kin.
This incident marks another serious act of gun violence in Thailand’s northeastern region, raising concerns about drug-related crime and firearms access in rural communities.
