13-12-2024 (NEW YORK) OpenAI has equipped its flagship chatbot ChatGPT with real-time video interaction capabilities, fulfilling a promise made earlier this year.
The breakthrough feature, unveiled during Thursday’s live-streamed presentation, enables the AI assistant to perceive and respond to live video feeds through smartphone cameras. Users can now receive instant visual assistance for everyday tasks, from message composition to step-by-step guidance for brewing coffee.
The rollout will begin with ChatGPT Plus and Pro subscribers, with enterprise and educational users gaining access in January 2025, according to OpenAI’s roadmap.
This visual upgrade marks a significant evolution from OpenAI’s initial text-based chatbot, which took the tech world by storm in 2022. The company’s push into multimodal AI – combining text, audio, image, and now video capabilities – signals a broader industry shift towards more versatile digital assistants.
The announcement comes as part of OpenAI’s twelve-day product showcase, which has already seen the launch of a premium ChatGPT Pro tier and Sora, the company’s new AI video generation platform.
