12-12-2024 (SINGAPORE) A Scoot Airlines aircraft bound for Wuhan was compelled to return to Singapore’s Changi Airport following a technical malfunction mid-flight on Sunday evening, causing significant delays for passengers.
The aircraft, operating as Flight TR120, departed Changi Airport at approximately 19:00 local time on 10 December. The incident unfolded whilst the aircraft was cruising over the South China Sea, forcing the pilots to execute an about-turn roughly two and a half hours into the journey.
Aviation authorities confirmed the aircraft touched down safely at Changi Airport at 23:21, more than four hours after its initial departure. A spokesperson for the budget carrier acknowledged that a technical irregularity had been detected during the flight, prompting the crew to take precautionary measures by returning to Singapore.
Passengers were subsequently accommodated on a replacement aircraft, which took off at 02:18 on Monday morning. The airline provided refreshments and meals to affected travellers during the extended delay.
Whilst social media reports from one passenger on Chinese platform Xiaohongshu alleged the turnback was due to damaged glass on the aircraft, the airline has not confirmed these claims.
