10-12-2024 (MANILA) Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr has firmly rejected calls to deploy naval warships to the West Philippine Sea, emphasising his administration’s commitment to avoiding military escalation in the disputed waters.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Marcos adopted a notably cautious stance following Beijing’s recent aggressive actions, which included using water cannons against Philippine vessels. “We are not at war, we don’t need navy warships,” the President declared, underscoring his administration’s preference for diplomatic solutions.
