28-11-2024 (JAKARTA) Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has unveiled a substantial increase in teachers’ salaries just one month into his presidency, marking a significant milestone in his administration’s commitment to education reform.
Speaking at the National Teachers’ Day 2024 celebration at the Velodrome in East Jakarta on Thursday, President Subianto announced that civil servant teachers will receive a salary enhancement equivalent to one month’s basic pay, while non-civil servant educators will see their allowances increase to 2 million rupiah (S$169) monthly.
“Standing before our nation’s educators today, I am pleased to announce that within just one month of taking office, we have successfully implemented measures to enhance teachers’ welfare,” President Subianto declared to enthusiastic applause, particularly noting the strong support from the Finance Minister.
The comprehensive salary reform package encompasses both civil servant teachers (ASN) and contract-based educators (PPPK), alongside non-civil servant teaching staff. This move represents one of the most substantial improvements to teachers’ remuneration in recent Indonesian history.
“We have allocated additional budget resources to boost the welfare of both our civil servant educators and non-civil servant teaching staff,” the President explained. He further detailed that civil servant teachers would receive supplementary benefits equivalent to their basic monthly salary, while non-civil servant teachers’ allowances would be standardised at 2 million rupiah per month.
