28-11-2024 (HANOI) A 25-year-old man has been arrested and charged with the rape and robbery of a teenage lottery ticket vendor in Binh Chanh District, police officials announced today.
The suspect, identified as Nguyen Huu Truyen from Ben Tre province, was apprehended by law enforcement following a swift investigation into the incident that occurred on 12 November.
According to police reports, the incident unfolded when Truyen encountered the 14-year-old victim, who was selling lottery tickets along Highway 50 in Da Phuoc commune. The suspect allegedly lured the young vendor under the pretence of purchasing her entire stock of lottery tickets, instructing her not to bring any money and offering her a ride to what he claimed was a friend’s residence.
Instead, investigators say Truyen drove the victim to an isolated location in Tan Kien commune, where he allegedly sexually assaulted her and stole 51 lottery tickets along with 190,000 Vietnamese dong in cash.
The victim’s distressed cries attracted the attention of nearby residents, who immediately alerted local authorities. The Binh Chanh District Police, in collaboration with Ho Chi Minh City’s Criminal Police Department, launched an extensive manhunt for the suspect.
Truyen was successfully apprehended at approximately 3:00 PM as he allegedly attempted to flee to western provinces. Law enforcement officers recovered all 51 stolen lottery tickets during the arrest.
