28-11-2024 (SINGAPORE) Police have launched an investigation into what appears to be a string of deliberate fires at a construction site in Yishun, marking a concerning pattern of suspected arson attacks that has resulted in two hospitalisations.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) has confirmed eight separate fire incidents occurred at the North Gaia executive condominium construction site in Yishun Close between 20th and 27th November. The blazes primarily affected construction materials and furniture stored at various locations within the development.
According to preliminary findings by SCDF investigators, evidence suggests the fires were deliberately set. While most incidents were quickly contained either by construction workers or responding firefighters, one fire resulted in two individuals being taken to Singapore General Hospital for smoke inhalation treatment.
The series of incidents came to public attention when footage of one fire was shared on social media platform TikTok on 22nd November. The user, identified as Jayfit, reported witnessing multiple fire incidents at the site on consecutive days.
These incidents have raised concerns about construction site security and safety protocols, particularly given the frequency of the fires within a week-long period.
