15-11-2024 (WASHINGTON) The United States Department of Defense has disclosed that 21 reported sightings of unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP) require additional scrutiny, according to their latest annual report released yesterday.
The Pentagon’s All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) documented a total of 757 reported sightings between May 2023 and June 2024, with 485 being new incidents and the remainder occurring in the previous two years. AARO Director Jon Kosloski characterised some of these cases as “true anomalies” requiring comprehensive investigation.
In a significant development, 49 sightings were reported in space, although none were detected by space-based sensors. These observations came from military and commercial pilots or ground observers, who reported phenomena at altitudes exceeding 100 kilometres.
The report firmly states that no concrete evidence of extraterrestrial activity has been discovered. Additionally, AARO has found no indication of advanced foreign adversarial capabilities or breakthrough aerospace technologies, addressing speculation within defence circles.
Of the 757 cases reported, only 118 have been conclusively explained, with identified objects including conventional balloons, birds, and unmanned aerial vehicles. A further 174 cases are approaching resolution, pending final review.
The agency continues to face significant challenges in processing the substantial backlog of 444 unresolved cases. “AARO’s ability to resolve cases remains constrained by a lack of timely and actionable sensor data,” the report acknowledges. To address this limitation, the office is strengthening collaboration with military and technical partners to enhance reporting processes and sensor capabilities.
In an effort to boost investigative capabilities, AARO is expanding its international cooperation, seeking to share information and best practices with allied nations. The office has also committed to promptly notify Congress should any cases indicate breakthrough foreign adversarial aerospace capabilities.
