14-11-2024 (KUALA LUMPUR) Popular content creator Lukian Wang has sparked controversy after publishing a scathing review of celebrity comedian Nigel Ng’s recently opened restaurant, Fuiyoh, describing it as her worst dining experience in Malaysia.
Wang, who runs the CookingBoBo YouTube channel with 66,000 subscribers, documented her disappointing visit in a video posted on 4 November, which has since garnered more than 30,000 views. Despite being an ardent fan of Ng’s Uncle Roger persona, Wang’s experience fell dramatically short of expectations.
The Hong Kong-based YouTuber detailed a frustrating series of delays, beginning with a 40-minute wait for seating. Upon finally securing a table, she discovered that more than half the menu items were unavailable. The service delays continued, with a simple hot lemon tea taking 21 minutes to arrive – and reportedly bearing little resemblance to its menu presentation.
The restaurant’s signature dish, fried rice, took a full hour to reach her table. “Tears of joy. I was so hungry,” Wang remarked sarcastically, adding that the queue outside reflected poor service rather than popularity.
The incident has prompted widespread discussion on social media, with many viewers expressing sympathy for Wang’s experience. Some commenters suggested they would have abandoned their visit after just 20 minutes, while others speculated about potential staffing or supply chain issues.
Ng, who opened Fuiyoh in September, has responded to the criticism through a comment on Wang’s video, apologising for the extended wait times and promising service improvements. The 33-year-old restaurateur shot to international fame in 2020 with his viral critique of a BBC Food fried rice tutorial, amassing nearly 10 million YouTube subscribers through his comedic Uncle Roger character.
