11-11-2024 (ALABAMA) A tragic incident at Tuskegee University’s homecoming celebrations has left one person dead and 16 others injured in the early hours of Sunday morning, marking the latest in a series of violent incidents at US university homecoming events.
Alabama Law Enforcement Agency confirmed that twelve individuals suffered gunshot wounds, while four others sustained injuries in the ensuing chaos. The deceased victim, identified as a male not affiliated with the university, will undergo an autopsy at the state’s forensic facility in Montgomery, according to Macon County Coroner Hal Bentley.
Police Chief Patrick Mardis reported that among the wounded were two students – a female who received a stomach wound and a male shot in the arm. The injured are currently receiving treatment at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika and Baptist South Hospital in Montgomery.
The Alabama Bureau of Investigations has launched a comprehensive investigation into the incident, with no immediate arrests reported. University officials are working to account for all students and notify parents of those involved.
