8-11-2024 (BRUSSELS) A 25-year-old Singaporean student lost his life following a violent confrontation in central Brussels early Thursday morning, with two teenagers now in custody over the fatal stabbing.
Belgian authorities responded to an emergency call at approximately 2:30am, discovering the victim with a severe abdominal wound on Sint-Pietersstraat. Despite immediate first aid from police officers and subsequent emergency medical intervention, the student succumbed to his injuries after being rushed to hospital.
Initial police investigations indicate that the victim, who was pursuing his studies in Belgium, had encountered two 18-year-old suspects earlier in the evening. According to local news outlet Bruzz, the deceased had been socialising with two fellow students when they were first harassed by the alleged assailants. The fatal confrontation occurred later when the victim was alone, resulting in one suspect producing a knife and inflicting the deadly wound.
The Brussels Public Prosecutor’s office has confirmed the detention of both suspects, with searches of their residences already conducted. However, authorities remain cautious about revealing further details, stating that “the exact circumstances of the incident are still under investigation.”
“Given the ongoing nature of this investigation, we are unable to provide additional commentary at this time,” a spokesperson for the prosecutor’s office added.
