4-11-2024 (SINGAPOER) More than 100 quail chicks were discovered abandoned in a green rubbish bin at Lim Chun Kang, with none surviving despite rescue efforts.
The Animal Concerns Research and Education Society (ACRES) received an alert from a member of the public on the evening of 27 October regarding bird sounds emanating from a waste bin. Upon arrival at the scene, ACRES officers made the heartbreaking discovery of a black rubbish bag containing 106 live quail chicks, alongside several dead chicks and unhatched eggs.
Despite immediate intervention and emergency care provided by ACRES personnel, all surviving chicks ultimately perished. “We exhausted every possible means to save these innocent creatures, but tragically, none of them survived the ordeal,” an ACRES spokesperson said in a Facebook post on Sunday, 3 November.
The National Parks Board (NParks) has been notified of the incident and has confirmed they are actively investigating the matter. In response to queries from The Straits Times, an NParks representative stated, “We will take firm action against individuals who abandon their pets, fail to provide adequate care, or engage in acts of animal cruelty.”
