15-10-2024 (BANGKOK) Thai authorities have successfully apprehended a Malaysian national wanted for extortion and assault in his home country. The arrest, which took place on Tuesday morning, marks a significant breakthrough in the cross-border pursuit of justice.
Yuvanes Muthusamy, 32, was taken into custody by a joint task force comprising officers from the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) and the Sadao police station in Songkhla province. The arrest was executed in Soi Thaijangloan 8, following intelligence shared by Malaysian law enforcement agencies.
Muthusamy stands accused of orchestrating an extortion scheme in Malaysia’s Selangor state, which culminated in a violent altercation on 2 October. According to Malaysian authorities, the suspect allegedly attempted to extort protection money from a local shop owner. When the shopkeeper refused to comply, Muthusamy purportedly resorted to violence, stabbing the victim in the hand.
Following the incident, Muthusamy is believed to have fled across the border into Thailand on 10 October, entering through the Sadao border checkpoint. This prompted Malaysian police to reach out to their Thai counterparts, specifically the CIB, for assistance in locating and apprehending the fugitive.
