12-10-2024 (BANGKOK) A distressing incident has mobilised animal welfare advocates and local authorities in Thailand’s Phrae Province after a dog was discovered with a metal rod pierced through its head. The alarming images, shared on social media late Thursday evening, have prompted an urgent rescue operation.
The harrowing photographs, posted by a Thai Facebook page around 9pm on Thursday, depict a white female dog with what appears to be a metal stick protruding through its left cheek. The post, accompanied by a plea for immediate assistance, quickly caught the attention of concerned netizens and local animal rescue groups.
According to reports from Thai news outlet Hone-Krasae, the injured canine was spotted near the entrance of Santi Chintana School for the Blind in Phrae Province. The dog, identified as a mother to three puppies, is believed to have been a victim of a spear gun attack, though the exact circumstances of the injury remain unclear.
The incident has galvanised local authorities and volunteers into action. On Friday morning, a dedicated rescue team comprising more than ten volunteers, alongside veterinary staff from the Den Chai Veterinary Office, converged on the site to launch a search and rescue mission.
Initial efforts to locate the injured animal revealed that it had sought refuge in a nearby house. However, the traumatised dog, likely overwhelmed by the presence of its would-be rescuers, fled into the adjacent forest area, complicating rescue efforts.
