2-10-2024 (TEHRAN) The Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) has declared a significant military operation against Israel, claiming to have successfully targeted “strategic centres” within occupied territories. This announcement, made through the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), marks the IRGC’s second statement following their missile assault on what they term the “Zionist regime”.
According to the IRGC, the operation specifically targeted air force and radar bases, utilising missiles reportedly manufactured domestically in Iran. The Guards boasted of a remarkable 90% success rate in their strikes, despite Israel’s advanced defence systems. This claim, if accurate, would represent a significant breakthrough in Iran’s military capabilities and a potential shift in the regional power balance.
The IRGC framed the attack as an act of “legitimate defence” under international law, warning of “destructive and regrettable” consequences should Israel retaliate. This stance underscores the heightened tensions between the two nations and the potential for further escalation.

In a provocative statement, the IRGC alleged that the targeted bases were “centres of conspiracy” involved in planning assassinations against resistance leaders. They specifically mentioned Dr Ismail Haniyeh, the late Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, and various military commanders from Hezbollah, Palestinian resistance groups, and the IRGC itself.
This attack represents a significant escalation in the long-standing conflict between Iran and Israel. It follows reports of ballistic missiles being fired at Israeli-controlled territories earlier on Tuesday evening, marking the beginning of what Iran terms its retaliation against Israel.
The international community now watches with bated breath as the situation unfolds. There are grave concerns about the potential for a wider regional conflict, with diplomatic efforts likely to intensify in the coming days to prevent further hostilities.
