1-10-2024 (KUALA LUMPUR) A young Malaysian couple who vanished without a trace after travelling to Bangkok three weeks ago. The disappearance of 21-year-old Goh and his 23-year-old girlfriend Yumi has left their families in Penang distraught and appealing for public assistance to locate the pair.
The mystery began to unfold on 4th September when Goh informed his mother of a job opportunity as a driver in the United Kingdom. He explained that his journey would include a layover in Bangkok before continuing to the UK. Communication with Goh’s mother persisted until 8th September, when he responded to her text about packing warm clothing for the British climate.
In a heartfelt Facebook post that has since gone viral, Goh’s cousin revealed the young man’s tendency to be reticent about his personal life, often becoming defensive when questioned. This behaviour extended to his relationship with Yumi, whom he had not introduced to his mother as his girlfriend.
Yumi’s situation mirrors that of Goh, with reports from Sin Chew Daily indicating that she, too, boarded a flight to Bangkok on 4th September without informing her mother of any plans to travel to the UK. Like her boyfriend, Yumi has not been heard from since their departure.
The plot thickened on 7th September when Yumi allegedly contacted a close friend via WeChat. In this communication, she claimed that both she and Goh had lost their luggage and documents in Spain, potentially leaving them stranded for up to two months. This unexpected development has only added to the confusion surrounding their whereabouts.
Adding to the perplexity, Yumi shared several videos with her friend, showing the couple enjoying dinner and strolling through Bangkok airport, seemingly contradicting the story about being in Spain.
The prolonged silence has left both families in a state of constant worry. Yumi’s mother, in particular, has made heartfelt pleas for her daughter to make contact and confirm her safety.
While police reports have been filed regarding the couple’s disappearance, authorities have yet to provide any significant updates on the case. The lack of progress has intensified the families’ distress and their urgent calls for public assistance.
