30-9-2024 (JAKARTA) A medical summary has been released by police regarding the death of 14-year-old Rindu Syahputra Sinaga, a student at SMPN 1 STM Hilir in Indonesia’s Deli Serdang Regency. The young boy’s demise has sparked controversy amidst allegations that he was subjected to a harsh punishment of 100 squat jumps by his teacher.
Senior Commissioner Hadi Wahyudi, Head of Public Relations for the North Sumatra Police, disclosed the contents of the medical report on Monday. “The main diagnosis is decreased consciousness due to electrolyte disturbances and fever, likely caused by typhus. Differential diagnoses include liver trauma and swelling of the right thigh due to trauma,” Wahyudi stated, citing the summary from Sembiring Deli Tua Regional Hospital.
The tragic sequence of events began on Friday, 20th September, when Rindu’s mother, Yuliana Padang, found her son feverish and lying in their home’s living room. Wahyudi revealed that the day prior, Rindu had informed his mother about being punished by his teacher, identified only as SW.
The following Monday, 23rd September, Rindu was taken to Talun Kenas Health Centre at approximately 08:30 local time.
As Rindu’s condition deteriorated, he was taken to Pratama Mayen Clinic in Limau Mungkur on Wednesday night, 25th September. The clinic, recognising the severity of his condition, referred him to Sembiring Deli Tua Hospital, where he arrived at midnight.
Tragically, at approximately 06:25 on Thursday, 26th September, doctors at Sembiring Hospital informed Rindu’s mother of her son’s passing.
