26-9-2024 (BANGKOK) A 34-year-old Polish national is under investigation following a bomb threat made aboard a Vietjet Air flight en route from Da Nang, Vietnam, to Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport. The incident, which occurred mid-air, prompted swift action from Thai authorities and airport security personnel.
At approximately 2:45 PM local time, the Suvarnabhumi Ground Radio Center received an urgent communication from the captain of Thai Vietjet Air Flight VZ 961. The pilot reported that a passenger had made threats about planting a bomb on the aircraft, which was carrying 120 passengers and six crew members, with 61 pieces of checked luggage.
Upon receiving this alarming information, ground staff immediately initiated the incident response protocol. The flight was directed to land at Isolated Parking 1, a designated area for handling potential security threats. As soon as the aircraft touched down, a specialised operational team swung into action, implementing a carefully coordinated plan to manage the situation.
Passengers and crew were swiftly evacuated and separated for questioning, while all luggage was removed from the aircraft for thorough inspection. The primary focus of the investigation quickly centred on Ms. Malgorzata Ewelina Myrcik, the 34-year-old Polish woman alleged to have made the threat.
According to preliminary reports, Ms. Myrcik is accused of using her mobile phone to issue the bomb threat while the plane was in flight from Da Nang to Suvarnabhumi. The exact nature and content of the threat have not been disclosed as the investigation is ongoing.
