12-9-2024 (NEW YORK) Lalisa ‘Lisa’ Manoban has once again etched her name in music history, securing her second MTV Video Music Award (VMA) for Best K-pop at the star-studded ceremony held at New York’s UBS Arena on Wednesday.
The 27-year-old Thai sensation, who rose to fame as a member of the globally renowned K-pop group Blackpink, triumphed with her solo single “Rockstar”. This marks a significant milestone as Lisa becomes the first female artist to claim the Best K-pop accolade twice, following her initial win in 2022 with “Lalisa”.
“Rockstar”, the inaugural release under Lisa’s own label LLOUD, not only clinched the coveted award but also garnered nominations in three additional categories: Best Editing, Best Choreography, and Best Art Direction. This multi-category recognition underscores the comprehensive artistry behind Lisa’s latest musical endeavour.
Gracing the VMA stage in a striking red leather ensemble, Lisa treated the audience to a mesmerising medley performance, seamlessly blending her chart-topping hits “Rockstar” and her latest single, “New Woman”. Her electrifying presence and unparalleled dance prowess once again demonstrated why she’s considered one of the industry’s most dynamic performers.
In an emotional acceptance speech, the Buri Ram native expressed heartfelt gratitude to her LLOUD team, partners at RCA Records, and her devoted global fanbase, affectionately known as Blinks and Lilies. “Rockstar was a meaningful comeback for me after ‘Lalisa,’ so this is very special,” Lisa remarked, highlighting the personal significance of this achievement. In a touching nod to her roots, she concluded her speech with a Thai expression of thanks: “khob khun ka”.
