12-9-2024 (SINGAPORE) A fatal accident on the Tampines Expressway (TPE) has left a 28-year-old motorcyclist dead following a collision with a lorry late Wednesday evening. The incident, which occurred around 10:25 pm on 11 September, has sparked an ongoing investigation and caused significant traffic disruptions.
The crash took place on the TPE in the direction of the Seletar Expressway (SLE), just before the Punggol Road exit. Eyewitness accounts and social media reports paint a grim picture of the scene, with the motorcyclist trapped beneath the wheels of the lorry.
Emergency services swiftly responded to the incident, with police and paramedics arriving promptly. Tragically, medical personnel pronounced the young rider deceased at the scene. The 42-year-old lorry driver emerged unscathed and is currently assisting authorities with their inquiries.
The collision’s aftermath led to severe traffic congestion, with motorists reporting lengthy delays. One netizen claimed that at least 20 buses were caught in the ensuing tailback. Police were forced to close two lanes of the expressway, further exacerbating the traffic situation. Photographs shared on social media platforms depicted all four lanes of the TPE at a standstill, with one motorist, identified only as Mr Li, stating that vehicles were completely immobilised.
