A series of coordinated raids, conducted with surgical precision, has resulted in the rescue of 402 children from what investigators describe as a nightmarish ordeal of physical and sexual abuse.
The operation, dramatically codenamed “Op Global”, unfolded in the early hours of Wednesday morning, casting a stark spotlight on the dark underbelly of institutions meant to protect society’s most vulnerable. As dawn broke over the states of Selangor and Negri Sembilan, police teams descended upon 20 welfare homes, their grim determination matched only by the shocking scale of what they would uncover.
In a press conference that left hardened journalists visibly shaken, Malaysian Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain laid bare the horrifying details of the raid. The children, ranging from mere toddlers of one year to adolescents on the cusp of adulthood at 17, were found in conditions that defy comprehension in a modern, civilised society.
“What we’ve uncovered here is nothing short of a tragedy,” Razarudin stated, his voice heavy with the weight of the investigation. “These children, 201 boys and 201 girls, have endured unspeakable horrors at the hands of those entrusted with their care.”
The scale of the alleged abuse is staggering. Initial investigations paint a picture of systemic exploitation, with children reportedly not only falling victim to sexual abuse but also being coerced into perpetrating similar acts on their peers. The depravity extends to physical torture, with reports of punishments involving heated metal objects for perceived transgressions.
In a chilling twist that adds a layer of religious manipulation to the scandal, some of the accused reportedly justified their actions as part of “religious medical treatment”, a claim that has sparked outrage among faith leaders and the wider community alike.
The raids, which spanned from 6 am to 11 am, resulted in the arrest of 171 individuals. The suspects, aged between 17 and 64, include caretakers, religious teachers, and even the chairmen of the implicated premises.
