11-9-2024 (BANGKOK) In northern Thailand, the aftermath of Typhoon Yagi has brought floods and landslides and four people have died, according to government officials on Wednesday, September 11. The army is on the ground to help families affected by this disaster.
Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra said aid is being provided to around 9,000 families in the northern provinces of Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai.
The Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department announced the initial deaths from Typhoon Yagi with two people killed in a landslide in Chiang Mai and two in Chiang Rai which borders Myanmar.

The health ministry has sent medical personnel, volunteers and rescue teams to help move vulnerable groups especially the elderly.
The Thai weather department has issued warning of more heavy rain and said the bad weather will continue until next Tuesday and flash floods are still possible. “From September 13 to 17 be careful as heavy to very heavy rain is expected” the department said in a statement.
The region has monsoon rain every year but the intensity is getting worse due to climate change and we are worried about flood.
Since the start of the season the emergency operation center has reported 29 deaths from rain related incidents.
