1-9-2024 (NEW DELHI) A harrowing ordeal has come to light involving a South Korean youtuber known as Let It Go Jay, whose cycling expedition through India’s picturesque Leh region reportedly descended into a nightmare of alleged kidnapping and abuse. The incident, which has sparked widespread concern and debate online, sheds light on the potential risks faced by solo travellers in remote areas.
According to reports from JTBC News on 23 August, corroborated by a video posted by the YouTuber on 18 August, Let It Go Jay’s ambitious 450-kilometre cycling journey took a sinister turn when he accepted a lift from local truck drivers. The social media star had embarked on this challenging route due to limited public transport options in the area.
The YouTuber claims that, exhausted from days of cycling, he fell asleep in the vehicle, only to awaken far from his intended destination. He found himself surrounded by the same individuals who had offered him the ride, now allegedly threatening him with weapons and demanding money. The situation reportedly escalated as the men attempted to rob him of his belongings, including his phone and camera.
In a disturbing twist, Let It Go Jay alleges that his captors forced him to ingest an unknown substance. Despite initially feigning compliance, he claims he was compelled to swallow a second dose, which left him unconscious for several hours. In a remarkable display of resourcefulness, the YouTuber managed to alert a friend to his plight, who in turn contacted the authorities.
After what must have been an interminable 30-hour ordeal, Let It Go Jay was finally released, albeit having suffered significant financial losses. Upon reporting the incident to local law enforcement, he claims the initial response was lacklustre. However, mounting pressure eventually led to the apprehension of the alleged kidnappers.
The YouTuber’s account of the subsequent investigation raises troubling questions about law enforcement practices in the region. He alleges witnessing severe physical abuse of the suspects and claims police officers encouraged him to show restraint while they carried out violent interrogations.
