13-8-2024 (TAIPEI) A routine flight from Jakarta to Taipei took an unexpected turn on Sunday when an EVA Air aircraft encountered severe turbulence, resulting in injuries to six flight attendants. The incident, which occurred approximately two hours into the journey, has once again highlighted the unpredictable nature of air travel and the importance of passenger safety protocols.
According to Formosa News, a Taiwanese news outlet, the turbulence struck EVA flight BR238 at 4:55 p.m. local time. The Boeing 777-300ER aircraft was cruising at an altitude of 37,000 feet when it suddenly experienced violent shaking. The timing of the incident was particularly unfortunate, as it coincided with the in-flight meal service, potentially exacerbating the risk of injury.
EVA Air confirmed that the flight had departed from Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport at 2:48 p.m. local time. Despite the mid-air drama, the pilots managed to navigate the aircraft safely to its destination, touching down at Taoyuan International Airport at 9:16 p.m. the same evening.
This incident is not an isolated occurrence in recent months. The aviation industry has witnessed a spate of turbulence-related events, some with more severe consequences. In May, a Singapore Airlines flight en route from London to Singapore encountered extreme turbulence, resulting in the tragic death of one passenger from a suspected heart attack and injuries to 30 others. The pilots were forced to make an emergency landing in Bangkok after the aircraft fell into an air pocket during breakfast service.
