10-8-2024 (SINGAPORE) A traffic accident involving a car and a lorry on Singapore’s Kallang-Paya Lebar Expressway (KPE) resulted in seven individuals, including three children, being hospitalised on National Day, August 9th. The incident occurred near the Sims Way exit at approximately 2:40 pm, casting a shadow over the day’s celebrations.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) responded promptly to the scene, where they encountered a challenging situation. One individual was found trapped in the driver’s seat of a pick-up truck, necessitating the use of hydraulic rescue equipment to safely extricate them.
Among those injured were the 35-year-old male lorry driver and the 44-year-old male car driver. Two adult passengers were also affected by the collision. All four adults were transported to Tan Tock Seng Hospital in a conscious state.
The accident’s impact extended to three children, with ages ranging from 4 to 70 years old. These younger victims were taken to KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital, also reported to be conscious upon arrival.
A video circulating on social media platforms provides a glimpse into the aftermath of the accident. The footage, lasting over two minutes, shows an elderly passenger from the car lying on her back following the collision. The person recording the video can be heard mentioning that emergency services had been contacted.
