8-8-2024 (BANGKOK) Thai authorities have apprehended a transgender woman in connection with the brutal killing of a university student in Nonthaburi Province, just north of Bangkok. The suspect, identified only as Ms Nut, was arrested while attempting to flee by train to Nakhon Sawan Province.
The victim, a 22-year-old male student known as Nong Sun, who attended a renowned university in the Khlong Prapa area, was discovered dead in a dormitory room in the Prachachuen area of Bang Khen Subdistrict, Mueang District, Nonthaburi Province. Police reports indicate that the young man had been stabbed to death before his body was wrapped in a blanket and set ablaze in an apparent attempt to conceal evidence.
A senior police official from Region 1 Investigation Bureau told reporters, “Our investigation team worked diligently to trace the perpetrator’s movements following the crime. CCTV footage and witness statements were crucial in piecing together the sequence of events.”
According to the police, the suspect left a backpack at Bang Sue Central Railway Station before travelling to Soi Chin Khet in the Thung Song Hong District. There, she allegedly stole a motorcycle with keys left in the ignition. The stolen vehicle was then used to travel to and from the crime scene.
“The suspect’s attempt to flee by train to her hometown in Nakhon Sawan Province was foiled by our officers, who made the arrest as she was en route,” the police official added.
The arrest has sent shockwaves through the local community, with many expressing disbelief at the nature of the crime. University officials have offered support services to students and staff affected by the tragedy.
As the investigation continues, authorities are appealing to the public for any additional information that may assist in building their case. The suspect is currently in custody and is expected to face formal charges in the coming days.
