6-8-2024 (SINGAPORE) Fresh information has come to light in the shocking murder case at Block 803, Yishun Ring Road, as police investigations continue to unravel the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident. The Straits Times has learned that the accused, Affendi Yusof, and the victim, Mr Fiqri Choo Iskandar, were flatmates sharing a unit on the 10th floor of the block where the crime occurred.
On August 6th, in a significant development, Affendi was brought back to the scene of the crime by police to re-enact the events leading up to the fatal incident. The accused arrived at approximately 10:15 am, handcuffed and under heavy police escort, to assist with the investigation.
Eyewitnesses reported that Affendi, clad in a red shirt, black shorts, and slippers, kept his head lowered as he was led to the 10th-floor lift lobby where Mr Fiqri’s body was discovered on July 27th. The accused then guided officers through the flat, including the living room and kitchen, where previous reports indicated the presence of blood stains on the floor, wall, and parapet.
According to sources close to the investigation, the fatal altercation on July 27th reportedly began with a 10-minute argument within the shared flat before spilling out into the lift lobby. It was there that 35-year-old Mr Fiqri was found motionless and subsequently pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene.
During the re-enactment, police had cordoned off the area to maintain the integrity of the investigation and prevent curious onlookers from interfering. The media was not permitted to enter the flat during the procedure, which lasted approximately an hour before Affendi was escorted back to a police vehicle and driven away.
Residents of the block recall being awoken by loud yelling between 8 am and 9 am on the day of the incident, followed by the grim discovery in the lift lobby. Affendi was arrested at the scene and charged with murder the following day.
This case has sent shockwaves through the typically quiet Yishun neighbourhood, raising questions about safety and interpersonal relationships in close-quartered living situations. As the investigation progresses, authorities are piecing together the events that led to this tragic outcome, hoping to provide answers to a community left reeling by the incident.
The charge of murder carries the death penalty in Singapore, underscoring the gravity of the accusation against Affendi
