1-8-2024 (JAKARTA) A seemingly innocuous philosophical discussion took a tragic turn in Indonesia’s Southeast Sulawesi province, resulting in the death of a 47-year-old man. The incident, which occurred on 25 July evening, has left the local community in shock and disbelief.
Kadir Markus, a resident of Lakapera village in Central Buton Regency, fell victim to a fatal stabbing at the hands of his drinking companion, identified only by the initials DR. The gruesome event unfolded on the main road between Raha and Lakapera in Labasa village, Tongkuno District, Muna Regency.
According to Roy P, a close friend of the deceased, the two men had been sharing drinks when their conversation took an unusual turn. “They were drinking together when the perpetrator posed a question to the victim about which came first, the chicken or the egg,” Roy explained to local reporters on Thursday.
Unable to provide a satisfactory answer to this age-old conundrum, Markus reportedly attempted to excuse himself and return home. This decision, however, appeared to have enraged DR, who then retrieved a traditional knife known as a ‘badik’ from his residence.
“The perpetrator chased after the victim. When they reached the front of a church, he stabbed him repeatedly, inflicting 15 wounds,” Roy recounted, painting a chilling picture of the assault.
Despite the efforts of local residents who rushed Markus to Wakuru Hospital, medical staff were unable to save his life.
In a surprising turn of events following the attack, DR reportedly flagged down a passing motorcyclist and turned himself in to the local police. Iptu Abdul Hasan, the Tongkuno Police Chief, confirmed the incident, stating, “The suspect and the victim had been consuming alcohol with other witnesses when a disagreement arose over whether the egg or the chicken came first, leading to a misunderstanding that resulted in this criminal act of murder.”
Hasan added that the suspect is currently in police custody and undergoing questioning at the Tongkuno Police Station.
