30-7-2024 (REDMOND) Microsoft is grappling with widespread network issues affecting its Azure platform, causing disruptions to users worldwide. The tech giant acknowledged the problem early Tuesday, as businesses and individuals reported difficulties accessing various Microsoft 365 services.
The Redmond-based company took to social media to address the situation, stating, “We’re actively investigating access issues and degraded performance across multiple Microsoft 365 services and features.” This announcement came as users increasingly voiced their frustrations over connection problems and service outages.
Among the affected services are the web-based version of Outlook email and Microsoft 365 administrative tools, both crucial for businesses relying on cloud-based operations. The company’s Azure status dashboard reflected network infrastructure warnings globally shortly after 9 a.m. Eastern Time, though notably, none were categorised as “critical” at that point.
This latest hiccup follows on the heels of a recent global outage that impacted several Microsoft systems, triggered by a software update from the security firm CrowdStrike. That incident had far-reaching consequences, affecting major businesses including Delta Airlines, underscoring the vulnerability of interconnected digital ecosystems.
Azure, Microsoft’s answer to cloud computing, provides a vast array of internet-based services to individuals, corporations, and government entities. These services span from data management and communication tools to multimedia delivery platforms. The platform competes directly with other tech behemoths offering similar services, such as Google Cloud and Amazon Web Services.
