29-7-2024 (KUALA LUMPUR)Â Prominent social media influencer Siew Pui Yi has been awarded a default judgment against her former business associate, Lai Kai Jian, in a case involving alleged financial misconduct.
The High Court in George Town, Penang, ruled in favour of Siew on 26th July, granting her a substantial sum of RM4.3 million (approximately S$1.2 million). This amount represents funds that Siew claims were fraudulently obtained by Lai under the guise of settling her outstanding tax liabilities.
The case, which has captured public attention due to Siew’s high profile in the social media sphere, stems from a lawsuit filed by the influencer earlier this year. In her legal action, Siew accused Lai, who is also known by the moniker ‘Mentos’, of absconding with a significant sum she had entrusted to him for the purpose of clearing her tax arrears with the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia.
