23-7-2024 (BANGKOK) In a harrowing revelation, Thai actress Chereen Natcharee, known by her stage name Chereen The Star, has come forward with a heartbreaking account of domestic violence, prompting her to take legal action against her former partner. Accompanied by her lawyer, Kaew Monchai, Chereen filed a complaint at the Thonglor Police Station, shedding light on the traumatic ordeal she has endured.
Lawyer Kaew Monchai stated that Chereen had been subjected to physical assault and verbal abuse, leading them to consult with her family before proceeding with the legal complaint. “Chereen will come to file a complaint and tell the facts to the police to adjust the charges,” he said. “It will be a crime of assault or fall under the Domestic Violence Act, which is up to the investigator.”
According to Kaew, the man in question had a history of excessive drinking and a volatile temper, often resorting to violence. Although their marriage was not officially registered, they had children together, making this a matter of domestic violence that necessitates the filing of a daily record.
Chereen revealed that even after their separation, the threats and harassment did not cease, leaving her fearing for her and her daughter’s safety. “After we broke up, it didn’t end. There were more threats and harassment,” she shared. “So I thought that it was not safe for my and my daughter’s life, so I decided to report it.”
Lawyer Kaew further disclosed that the man had been following Chereen, threatening her, and monitoring her movements in an unusual manner, prompting her to seek legal protection.
Recounting the events leading up to the complaint, Chereen explained that on the morning in question, her former partner’s sister visited, seeking to speak with him. Feeling uneasy about the situation, Chereen requested the presence of her bodyguard.
Despite having been separated for nearly a year, the threats and intimidation persisted, prompting Chereen to take action after enduring repeated instances of abuse. “In the past, we tried to be patient for the sake of our children and our family. We talked about not doing it again. The most severe time was the last time,” she shared.
Lawyer Kaew presented evidence of the physical abuse, including images of slap marks and wounds, as well as LINE chat messages and video clips that will serve as evidence in the case.
