10-7-2024 (NEW YORK) Blackpink’s Lisa is set to make her highly anticipated solo festival debut at the Global Citizen Festival in New York’s iconic Central Park on September 28th. The anti-poverty nonprofit announced on Tuesday (July 9) that the Thai rapper and singer will join an impressive lineup of headliners, including Post Malone, Doja Cat, Jelly Roll, and Raouw Alejandro, for the star-studded event.
Lisa’s addition to the festival bill is part of the organizers’ efforts to attract a younger audience and broaden the event’s international appeal. Global Citizen has long been known for partnering with major artists, from Beyoncé and Jay-Z to Queen, to encourage its audience to lobby political, corporate, and philanthropic leaders in support of the nonprofit’s initiatives.
Hugh Evans, the CEO of Global Citizen, emphasized the importance of garnering support from all generations, especially in light of the pressing global issues the festival aims to address. “This year’s festival, which will focus on addressing poverty and other pressing international issues, needs support from all generations now more than ever,” Evans stated. He noted that approximately 10 percent of the world’s population currently lives in extreme poverty, and the United Nations expects that number to reach 575 million by 2030.
Tickets to the Global Citizen Festival are free, but attendees are required to take actions to “defeat poverty, defend the planet, and demand equity” on the nonprofit’s website.
While still a member of the globally renowned K-pop group Blackpink, Lisa recently released her latest solo single, “Rockstar,” last month as part of her new deal with RCA Records. Additionally, she is set to make her acting debut in the upcoming HBO series “The White Lotus.”
Katie Hill, Global Citizen’s head of music, entertainment, and artist relations, expressed her excitement about Lisa’s involvement, stating, “Lisa is not only an incredible performer but also a powerful advocate, leveraging her voice and platform to drive action on some of the most urgent challenges our world is facing.”
The Global Citizen Festival has become a prestigious event, bringing together music, activism, and a commitment to making a positive impact on global issues. With Lisa’s addition to the lineup, the festival is poised to reach new heights, captivating audiences with her dynamic performance while raising awareness and inspiring action toward a more equitable and sustainable future.
