5-7-2024 (JAKARTA) The woman, identified Revi, had gone missing during her trip to Japan, prompting a frantic search by her family and Indonesian authorities. However, it was later discovered that she had been apprehended by Japanese officials due to her involvement with narcotics.
“Revi was initially arrested for being caught in possession of drugs,” said Judha Nugraha, Director of Protection of Indonesian Citizens at the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Nugraha revealed that the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Indonesian Consulate General in Osaka were actively working on Revi’s case after her reported disappearance. Their primary objective was to ensure that her rights were upheld during the legal proceedings.
“Consular access to meet Revi and provide legal assistance has been granted by the Indonesian Consulate General in Osaka to ensure that she fully receives her rights,” he stated.
However, Nugraha refrained from divulging further details about the case, citing the need to protect Revi’s interests and the ongoing investigation process.
Prior to the revelation of her arrest, Revi’s disappearance during her Japan trip had caused a stir on social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter). Reports initially suggested that the woman had lost communication after clearing immigration in Japan.
Descriptions of her appearance, including wearing a pink sweater and a hijab, were widely shared by concerned relatives who struggled to establish contact with her. This prompted them to spread information about her disappearance across social media channels.
The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Consulate General in Osaka promptly investigated the matter, eventually confirming that the missing Indonesian woman had been located by Japanese authorities. The Consulate General in Osaka was granted access to meet Revi to confirm her identity.
“Consular access for the Indonesian Consulate General in Osaka to meet the individual was granted on June 19, 2024.” Judha said
Further details regarding the circumstances surrounding the woman’s disappearance and subsequent discovery remain scarce. The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been in contact with the woman’s family to provide further assistance and support.
“Yes, (she was found in Osaka by Japanese authorities),” Judha confirmed.
