4-7-2024 (JAKARTA) A suspect in a gruesome mutilation case that has shocked the West Java regency of Garut is currently undergoing medical observation at the Sartika Asih Police Hospital in Bandung, local authorities have revealed.
The case, which involves the brutal killing and dismemberment of an unidentified victim in Cibalong District, has sent ripples through the community and drawn significant attention from law enforcement.
Chief of the Garut Police Criminal Investigation Unit, AKP Ari Rinaldo, speaking to reporters on Wednesday, stated, “The investigation into this case is still ongoing, and we are awaiting the results of the suspect’s health observation from the hospital.”
The suspect, identified only as Erus, a 24-year-old Garut resident, was apprehended shortly after allegedly committing the heinous act in Bantar Limus Village, Sancang, Cibalong District, on Sunday, 30th June. Following his arrest, Erus was initially taken to the Garut Police Headquarters for questioning before being referred to a psychiatrist for mental health evaluation.
“The suspect is currently under medical observation at Sartika Asih Hospital in Bandung, under the close supervision of members from our Criminal Investigation Unit and accompanied by his family members,” Rinaldo explained.
The decision to transfer the suspect to Bandung came on the recommendation of dr Slamet Hospital in Garut, which suggested more comprehensive mental health assessment was necessary. “The referral to Bandung was made due to suspected mental health issues experienced by the perpetrator,” Rinaldo added.
As the investigation continues, authorities are urging the public to refrain from speculation and allow the police to conduct a thorough inquiry based on factual evidence. “We ask the community to be patient as we are handling this case with utmost care and diligence,” Rinaldo emphasised.
The discovery of the mutilated body parts along a roadside in Cibalong, near the border between Garut and Tasikmalaya regencies, initially caused panic among local residents. The police swiftly launched an investigation, leading to the identification and arrest of the suspect.
