4-7-2024 (BANGKOK) Tourist Police in Pattaya have launched an investigation into a popular underwater attraction following a serious incident involving an Indian holidaymaker. The tourist, whose identity remains undisclosed, suffered severe injuries whilst participating in a Sea Walker experience, a activity that allows visitors to explore the seabed whilst wearing a specially designed helmet.
The victim is currently in critical condition at Bangkok Pattaya Hospital, where they are reportedly reliant on breathing apparatus.
Led by Police Lieutenant Colonel Piyaphong Ensarn, alongside colleagues Lt. Col. Suparat Meepreecha and Lt. Col. Apichart Jarurak, officers conducted a thorough inspection of two vessels associated with the Sea Walker operation. The boats, identified as the Marine Diving Service paddle boat and Kong Samut 8, were examined near Koh Sak in Chonburi Province.
Whilst the Marine Diving Service craft was found to possess valid licensing, the inspection uncovered a more pressing concern. Of the eight foreign workers present on board, six were revealed to be Cambodian nationals who had entered Thailand illegally and lacked the necessary documentation for employment. These individuals were promptly detained by Tourist Police for further legal action.
In contrast, the Kong Samut 8 vessel was deemed to be fully compliant, with all necessary paperwork in order and staffed exclusively by Thai nationals.
