In a short clip posted on TikTok by user “madsinsg,” a police coast guard boat can be seen conducting a water rescue operation near the VivoCity promenade. The woman is seen clinging to a buoy attached to a rope, as onlookers gathered at the waterfront to witness the rescue efforts.
The video showcases the intensity of the moment, with the boat’s lights illuminating the inky waters as the crew worked to pull the woman to safety. In the initial footage, the woman’s body can be seen floating in the waters of Sentosa Gateway, some distance from the VivoCity promenade, as the coast guard boat approached from the Sentosa side.
The dramatic sequence culminates with the woman being helped aboard the police vessel, while a Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) boat observed from afar.
In a statement to local media, the Singapore Police Force confirmed that they received a call for assistance in the waters of Sentosa Gateway around 8:45 p.m. on June 29. The 31-year-old woman was conveyed to the hospital in a conscious state.
However, the circumstances took an unexpected turn when the woman was subsequently apprehended under the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) Act 2008, suggesting potential mental health concerns that may have contributed to the incident.
