24-6-2024 (KUALA LUMPUR) A Malaysia Airlines flight bound for Bangkok experienced a mid-air scare on Saturday evening, prompting an emergency descent and an abrupt return to the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA). Flight MH780, an Airbus A330-200, was en route to Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport when it encountered a pressurization issue at 5:59 PM.
In a statement released by the airline, Malaysia Airlines confirmed that the operating pilots initiated an emergency descent, although the cabin altitude was not exceeded, and passenger oxygen masks were not deployed. Despite the concerning situation, the aircraft remained stable throughout the incident and landed safely at KLIA at 8:18 PM.
The flight’s unscheduled return to Kuala Lumpur was initially reported by AviationSource News, a UK-based aviation news portal, which stated that the plane had already reached Thai airspace when it declared an emergency and adjusted its course back to the Malaysian capital.
This incident comes just four days after another Malaysia Airlines flight, MH199 from Hyderabad to Kuala Lumpur, was forced to return to its departure point due to an engine malfunction that led to sparks emanating from the aircraft. In that incident, the plane landed safely at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at 3:21 AM local time, with all passengers and crew disembarking without any injuries reported.
