2-6-2024 (BANGKOK) A devastating road accident near the popular seaside town of Pattaya claimed the life of a motorcyclist on Sunday night when his high-powered bike collided with a bus attempting a U-turn, resulting in a fiery crash.
The fatal incident occurred around 10:36 pm near the 100-kilometre marker on Highway 36 in the Pong sub-district of Bang Lamung district. Authorities who rushed to the scene discovered a stationary bus belonging to First Transport Co, registered in Bangkok, with visible damage to the luggage compartment door near its rear right wheels.
Nearby, the mangled remains of a 1000cc Yamaha R1 motorcycle were found ablaze. Once the flames were extinguished, emergency responders tended to the critically injured and unconscious rider, identified as 37-year-old Kritphum Khanthong. Sadly, despite their efforts, he succumbed to his injuries.
According to eyewitness accounts from Chanin Srichome, 27, another motorcyclist in the group, Kritphum was returning from a weekend trip when the tragic collision occurred. As the bus began executing a U-turn, crossing into the path of the oncoming motorcycle, Kritphum was unable to react swiftly enough to avoid the impact, despite attempting to swerve into the adjacent lane.
The bus driver, 35-year-old Sakrit Mohkae, explained that due to the vehicle’s sizeable dimensions, he had initiated the U-turn manoeuvre from the left lane. Tragically, Kritphum, travelling in the right lane, could not evade the turning bus in time, resulting in the catastrophic collision.
