24-6-2024 (KUALA LUMPUR) A landslide was reported in the foothills of the majestic Mount Kinabalu in Sabah early this morning, prompting swift action from local authorities to assess the situation and ensure the safety of residents in the vicinity. The incident, which occurred in the Mesilau area of Kundasang, did not result in any damage to property, according to Ranau fire and rescue department chief Ridwan Taib.
“We are monitoring the area near the landslide to ensure the safety of the residents in the vicinity,” Ridwan was quoted as saying by Berita Harian. The landslide caused the Mesilau River, a tributary of the Liwagu River in Ranau, to become muddy, raising concerns about potential environmental impacts.

Ridwan revealed that the department received information about the landslide following the circulation of a video clip on social media, which quickly went viral, drawing attention to the incident.
Meanwhile, Sabah Parks director Maklarin Lakim provided reassurance that the landslide occurred away from the popular mountain-climbing trail, minimizing the risk to hikers and trekkers. He added that no casualties were reported, and the situation is currently under control, according to reports from the Daily Express.
