15-6-2024 (BANGKOK) In a tense display of aviation prowess, a flydubai flight en route from Dubai to the Philippines was forced to make an emergency landing at U-Tapao airport in Rayong province during the early hours of Saturday morning after encountering a critical landing gear malfunction.
According to reports, the captain of the Airbus A319-115 (CJ) jet sought permission to divert to the navy-owned airport in Ban Chang district shortly after midnight, as the aircraft’s wheels failed to deploy upon approaching its intended destination. The situation prompted a swift and comprehensive emergency response, with airport authorities swiftly elevating the alert level to its maximum.
In a display of preparedness, more than 30 ambulances, medical teams, and rescue workers from both Rayong and the neighbouring Chon Buri province were rapidly mobilised and stationed at the airport, bracing for any potential contingencies.
Fortunately, the skilled pilots managed to safely bring the aircraft down at approximately 1:05 AM, much to the relief of all involved. Following a comprehensive assessment of the aircraft’s systems, the plane was cleared for takeoff, resuming its journey to the Philippines at around 1:45 AM.
Initial reports suggesting that the aircraft was carrying approximately 100 passengers proved to be inaccurate, with authorities clarifying that the flight was operated by a crew of nine, comprising two captains and seven additional crew members.
In the aftermath of the dramatic incident, the Naval Aviation Division and the Royal Thai Fleet expressed their gratitude to all agencies involved, commending the swift deployment of personnel and rescue equipment in response to the emergency situation.
